I’m not methodical or rigid. I don’t have a ritual when it comes to writing, and trying to explain where I write from is difficult. I can take a metaphorical approach and try to explain where I write from mentally, but even then, I’m left with inconsistencies. I wish I could just describe my room and claim that to be my writing space, but then I’d be extremely inauthentic, and there’s no fun in that. What I will say is that the inconsistency of places I write from, the different moods or states of mind I write in, are me. Maybe that counts as where I write from… everywhere.
I try not to have rules in my writing, especially when it is about myself, because I will let it snowball into a manipulative, ego-driven desire to control the reader’s perception of me. I like to be raw with my writing. Maybe that’s the theme and my ritual: finding a safe place where I won’t lie. Anytime I feel deeply, I want to write. My feelings are extremely intense, and I want to hold onto them… so I write. Whether I’m happy, sad, angry, or anything else, the level of intensity stays the same, and it inspires me to write.
